Virginia Capitol Connections, 2025 Annual Magazine 33 Adding to the County’s efforts to welcome more residents, the Sportsplex project highlights the progress being made to establish Pulaski County as not only a great place to live, work, and raise a family, but also as a standout destination for visitors. Rolling these endeavors into a single collaborative mission fosters an environment ripe for progress. “The dual-purpose approach the County is taking with the Sportsplex is a win-win for everyone,” said Tim Miller, Executive Director of the Pulaski County Sports and Entertainment Authority. “The local community gets a world-class facility that might otherwise not be possible, and the region gets a state-of-the-art facility that can host major tournaments and events while significantly contributing to the local economy.” This same dual-purpose approach has been applied to multiple other venues, including historic Calfee Park—one of the oldest active minor league ballparks in the country—and Pulaski County Motorsports Park, which were both gifted to the County in one of the largest private donations to a locality in the history of the Commonwealth. “We’re incredibly lucky to have so many historic, large-scale venues in the County,” Miller said. “Currently, we are formulating unique, sustainable plans for these facilities to create world-class sports and entertainment experiences while also generating revenues for the community.” While the County evolves and continues to improve residential and visitor experiences, there is always plenty to do—whether you’re seeking a calm getaway or an exciting weekend in your own backyard. “Our goal for visitors and residents is to always have something to do,” said Erika Tolbert, Director of Pulaski County Tourism. “There’s always something cool going on in the County.
